1. Not Being Intentional with My Time

Time is our most precious resource. I realized that mindlessly filling my days with distractions (like doom scrolling) only left me feeling unfulfilled. By scheduling my time and prioritizing what truly matters, I’ve gained a sense of control and purpose. Now, I spend my time on activities that align with my goals and values.

2. Not Being Intentional with Money

For years, I lived paycheck to paycheck, often overspending on things that didn’t bring me joy. I decided to take charge of my finances by creating a budget binder, setting savings goals, and being more mindful about my purchases. This shift has not only reduced my stress but also allowed me to invest in experiences and opportunities that truly enrich my life.

3. Social Media

I found myself mindlessly scrolling through social media, comparing my life to others and feeling inadequate. Deleting social media helped me reconnect with reality and focus on my own journey. Now, I limit my time online and prioritize face-to-face connections, which have been much more fulfilling.

4. Fitting In Instead of Being Myself

For far too long, I felt the need to conform to fit in with others. Due to being outcasted as a kid I truly looked for ways to fit into something I didn’t even align with, just to be-friend people who I didn’t truly connect with. This often led me to suppress my true self and opinions. Growing into my own woman, and embracing my authenticity was liberating. I’ve learned that being true to myself attracts the right people and opportunities into my life, and it’s far more rewarding than trying to please everyone else.

5. Negative Self-Talk

This is probably the most important one of all. There are many things that prove that your mindset has a lot to do with your experience and what you attract (if you believe in manifestation). My favorite book that goes into this theory is The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy.

I used to be my own worst critic, constantly doubting my abilities and worth. I decided to challenge those negative thoughts and replace them with positive affirmations. This shift has boosted my confidence and helped me approach challenges with a more constructive mindset.

6. Procrastination

Putting things off until for anytime later became a habit that drained my energy and productivity. I started breaking tasks into smaller, manageable steps and tackling them right away. This change not only helped me stay organized but also reduced my stress levels and gave me a sense of accomplishment.

When we have things we know we need to do, it can be hard to truly be in the moment and enjoy doing things we actually want to do. I found I am happier and can enjoy my time more when I get things done I don’t necessarily “feel” like doing. my mind is truly free to enjoy things I want to do.

7. Multitasking

Multitasking often feels like a necessary skill. However, research shows that focusing on one task at a time can lead to greater productivity, creativity, and overall well-being. When we concentrate on a single task, we’re able to enhance our attention span, reduce stress, and produce higher-quality results.

Multitasking can actually hinder our ability to think critically and make decisions, leading to mistakes and burnout. By embracing single-tasking, we not only improve our efficiency but also cultivate a sense of accomplishment and clarity.

8. Perfectionism

Striving for perfection often left me feeling overwhelmed and unfulfilled. I learned to embrace imperfection and see it as a part of growth. This shift has allowed me to take more risks and enjoy the process, rather than being paralyzed by the fear of failure.

9. Overcommitting

In my past desire to please others, I often took on more responsibilities than I could handle. I’ve learned to say no and set boundaries, allowing me to focus on what truly matters without feeling stretched thin. This has improved my mental health and allowed me to dedicate more time to what truly matters to me.

10. Not Being in the Moment

I often found myself preoccupied with worries about the future or regrets about the past, missing out on the beauty of the present. Practicing mindfulness has helped me appreciate each moment, whether it’s enjoying a conversation with a friend or savoring a quiet cup of coffee. Embracing the present has not only reduced my anxiety but also deepened my sense of gratitude for life’s everyday joys.

11. Waiting for the “Right Time”

I often found myself postponing dreams and goals, believing I needed to wait for the perfect moment. I’ve learned that there’s rarely a perfect time, and taking action—even small steps—can lead to progress and unexpected opportunities. Embracing the present moment has made my life feel richer and more fulfilling.

Each of these changes took time and effort, but the benefits have been invaluable. By letting go of what no longer serves me, I’ve created space for growth, joy, and authentic, intentional living. If you’re feeling stuck, consider what you might be able to give up to transform your own life. The journey of self-improvement starts with a single step!
